FAQs
What kind of yoga does YogaBelle teach?
YogaBelle teaches primarily a vinyasa or flow yoga. While we will offer some power yoga, we love slow restorative classes allowing our students to gain and maintain flexibility and strength. The main goal of all of our yoga classes is to find and maintain proper body alignment and awareness. In other words, EVERYONE will be able to find a class to suit their needs.
Do I have to be able to speak Sanskrit to take yoga?
Of course not....we teach in English, but you may hear a few Sanskrit terms thrown around (and they will always be translated and explained).
Is yoga a cult or religion? Or is it based on a religion?
Absolutely not. All yogis and yoginis can tell you that we just seek to find the goodness within ourselves and others. We practice non-violence and we leave our egos at the door. When we are practicing our yoga, we are all equals. At YogaBelle, we spend our time honoring ourselves and the gifts our bodies give us rather than centering all of our practice around the philosophy of yoga. However, there may be times when we will offer workshops on various yoga topics if you have an interest in learning this aspect.
Erin, can you put your foot behind your head or do those crazy yoga poses we see pictures of?
Most likely, probably not. While I haven't met a pose I won't try at least once, I know my own limits and will always stop before I hurt myself. I keep a couple of "goal poses" in mind at all times (and have been known to put pictures of them on the fridge), I will only progress into these poses as my body is ready. While I have been known to do a few of the extreme ones, I just love to do the poses that make my body happy.
What should I wear to a yoga class?
Anything that is comfortable. When dressing for class, we look for clothes that do not limit our range of motion. Typically, a form fitting outfit will allow for deep stretching without exposing parts of us that we'd like to keep covered. This does not mean that we have to buy the expensive clothes that are made just for yoga, Walmart and Old Navy have wonderful lines of athletic clothing that are perfect for practice.
I'm pregnant/post-partum, can I still take your classes?
YES! In fact, many studies show that yoga is beneficial to soon-to-be and new moms. We recommend the restorative classes for this student population, and PLEASE tell your instructor of your condition before class so applicable pose modifications can be taught to you.
